Mitchell takes on The Dome
In a departure from his familiar No. 5 ride, Jon Mitchell piloted Keith Lawson Motorsports’ No. 121 Super Late Model during the 2024 Castrol Gateway Dirt Nationals in St. Louis. Mitchell competed as part of a 131-car field in the year-ending event at The Dome at America’s Center and showed speed throughout the weekend.
Mitchell participated in Thursday’s preliminary action on the 1/5-mile oval, opening the evening with the fifth-quickest time in his qualifying group. He was unable to move into the night’s main event through his heat race, but earned a starting position in the $5,000-to-win feature by grabbing the third and final transfer spot in his B-Main. Mitchell started and finished 17th in the 25-lap feature race.
On Saturday, Mitchell started fifth and came home 11th in his Qualifier after suffering a DNF. As a result, his event ended in advance of the 40-lap, $30,000-to-win finale.
During the 2024 season, Mitchell grabbed one feature win, 10 top-five results and 16 top-10 finishes. He also was fourth in the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series final point standings.
