Mario Gresham sweeps 602 portion of Governor's Cup at Magnolia; seventh with Crate Racin' USA
Pulling into Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Miss.) on Friday afternoon for a busy weekend of racing, Mario Gresham unloaded both his 604 and 602 Late Model for the Governor's Cup.
With 26 602 Late Models checked in for the weekend, Mario finished runner-up in his heat race and started sixth in the 15-lap feature. Running third for most of the main event, Gresham made up a dramatic last lap pass from third to take the checkered flag over Bailey Callahan and Josh Parkerson.
For Saturday's $2,000-to-win showdown, Gresham showed even more speed by topping the qualifying charts and dominating his heat race. Rolling off from the pole in the A-Main, Mario led briefly before Terry Wilson took the point. Gresham wrestled the lead back away and led the final 14 laps to score the $2,000 payday.
Among 53 604 Crate Racin' USA entries, Gresham qualified second-quick in his group before finishing fourth in his heat race. Locked into Saturday's $10,000-to-win finale, Mario made up six spots in the 75 lapper to finish seventh.
Gresham is currently second in the CRUSA point standings.
