AK Rolls To Runner Up Finish at Rock Rapids

Andrew Kosiski and Team 53 took to the banks of Rapid Speedway Friday night for the first of two Malvern Bank Super Late Model Racing (SLMR) Series races this weekend. Kosiski would start on the pole and lead the opening circuits but would come up just short at the finish. (Todd Boyd photo)

Qualifying time trials started the evening with Andrew laying down a lap of 16.591 seconds which was good for 7th overall fastest. Starting second row outside in the heat race the All Makes Collision Center, Certified Transmission, Nebraska Bullnose, 4Seams Academy, Select Auto Sales Omaha, Kosiski Auto Parts, Omni Inventive Care, We'll Smoke U BBQ, Super Clean, Mars Race Cars No. 53 advanced two positions giving AK enough overall qualifying points to start on the pole of the 30 lap feature event.

At the drop of the green Andrew would jump out to a big lead using the bottom side of the speedway. AK held the top spot until lap 11 when Kyle Berck used the middle of the speedway to get by. Berck stretched the lead to 2.5 seconds but lap traffic allowed Kosiski to reel him back in during the closing laps. Closing the gap to under a half second Andrew couldn’t capitalize and would come across the line in the runner up position.
