Kosiski Comes Up Just Short, Finishes Runner Up at I-80 Speedway

Andrew Kosiski and Team 53 made another venture to the I-80 Speedway Saturday for the second to last points event of the season for the Malvern Bank Super Late Model Racing (SLMR) Series . Kosiski closed the deficit in the closing laps on race leader Tad Pospisil, but came up short finishing in the second position.

After a week of rain the I-80 Speedway track crew was able to get the facility in good enough condition to allow the Malvern Bank Series to get race number fourteen of the season underway. With no qualifying the draw set the heat race lineup giving Andrew the second row inside starting spot in the second heat race. Kosiski was able to advance one spot to finish second, giving him the seventh starting spot in the 30 lap A main event.

At the drop of the green the inside lane didn’t get the best jump causing Andrew to fall back to the eighth position on lap three; but AK rebounded on a lap six yellow flag getting a two for one on the restart to move up to sixth. Kosiski kept charging forward and was battling with Kyle Berck and Corey Dumpert for a top five position when the yellow flew again on lap 11. The ensuing restart seen the All Makes Collision Center , Certified Transmission , Kosiski Auto Parts, Super Clean , Select Auto Omaha , Omni Inventive Care , We'll Smoke U BBQ , Mars Race Cars MB Custom Chassis with Envy Suspension No. 53 come to life as Andrew made quick work moving into the third position by lap 16, and at that point he was over two seconds behind the 2020 Yankee Dirt Track Classic Champion Jason Rauen. It took Kosiski nine laps to run the No. 98 down and after Rauen put the squeeze on Andrew entering turn one, AK motored by and drove away from him exiting turn two. Kosiski then trailed leader Tad Pospisil by three and a quarter seconds, but in the last five laps he could only cut the deficit down to two seconds as Pospisil took the checkers. Kosiski finished second followed by Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series regular Tyler Bruening in third. (Todd Boyd photo)
