Hickman Visits Victory Lane in Cleveland Re-Opening

After sitting dormant for nearly a year, Cleveland Speedway (Cleveland, Tennessee) resumed operation on Friday night under new ownership.
Thirty-three Limited Late Models registered for battle, in front of a capacity crowd at the historic oval. Riley blazed to fast time honors with a lap of 13.694 seconds, earning him he pole position for the feature. When the race went green, Hickman assumed the point and built a commanding lead before the caution waved on lap five. Despite several cautions, Hickman dominated the event, leading flag-to-flag for the victory over Andy Picklesimer, Jamie Perry, Brett Wyatt, and Todd Hernandez. (Photo by The Photo Man)

It was back to business with the Southern All Star (SAS) Racing Series Super Late Models on Saturday night at Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tennessee). The $5,000-to-win, King of the Mountain Fall Classic drew a field of twenty-seven entries to the oval, as Riley piloted the #1G Warrior House Car for the second time this season. With the tour four qualifiers from each group locking into the feature, Hickman fell short of the transfer and had to run a heat race. A third place finish in his heat race earned him the fourteenth starting spot for the 50 lap main event. In the feature, Riley settled to a nineteenth place finish in the final rundown.

Hickman continues to lead the latest SAS point’s standings. Complete results from the event and the latest series standings are available at www.SASDirt.com

The weekend drew to a close on Sunday evening when the Riley Hickman Racing team returned to Lavonia Speedway (Lavonia, Georgia) for the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series event that was nixed by rain a week ago.

With twenty-one entries in the pits for the $4,000-to-win program, Riley qualified fourth overall during time trials to lock into the fourth starting spot for the Georgia State Championship finale. Hickman chased polesitter, Casey Roberts throughout the course of the event but was never able to inch in front of Roberts. Hickman would settle for second behind Roberts at the checkered flag, while Clayton Turner, Jeff Smith and Dennis Franklin rounded out the top five finishers. (Photo by ZSK Photography)
