SHEELY RETURNS TO OUTLAW MADDOG $ERIES VICTORY LANE

For Second Week In A Row The Maddog Feature Decided by 0.03 Second Separation At Checkers

By 2020 MADDOG $ERIES Reporter
FOUNTAIN CITY, WI (Saturday June 13, 2020) – For the second week in a row the MTS 2020 MADDOG $ERIES presented by Advanced Media Solutions wowed both spectators and racers from other divisions with some of the closest and most entertaining on-track action of the evening.

After allowing fans onto the track before practice to see the steeds that would be competing in Round 3 of the outlaw maddog series, riders took to the 1/5-Mile LIGHTNING SPEEDWAY to compete through two qualifying heat races to determine line selection order for the evening’s 12-Lap Main.

Round one winner Shawn Sheely looked poised to begin efforts on another ‘clean sweep’ by leading almost the entirety of the opening heat with his #86’D Honda, but a slight miscalculation on the final lap relegated him to a second place finish. Intent on not letting it happen again, Sheely stormed back to win the second heat.

The 12-Lap Main proved, once again, that the Maddog Cycles can put on a thrilling show on the sweeping 1/5-mile LIGHTNING SPEEDWAY. As the starting light flashed green, Sheely rocketed away from the competition while the #90 of first heat race winner Dan Bailey, the #526 of Round 2 Main event winner Zach Bailey battled with the #756 Suzuki of Matt Johnson for second, third and fourth in the running order.

The trio spent the opening three circuits battling for position while out front, Sheely opened up a commanding lead that stretched almost the entire length of the back straightaway. Exiting turn four to complete the third lap, the elder Bailey (Dan) completed his pass for second on the younger Bailey (Zach) and began a six lap sprint (including turning in the evening’s fastest lap) to reel in the leader.

By lap 10 Bailey’s Honda had caught Sheely and the two filled the final two laps with a fierce duel for the lead. Sheely’s #86’D and Bailey’s #90 took the white flag side-by-side and then touched and rubbed through turns 1 & 2 for the all-important final run down the back straight.

The two again navigated turns 3 & 4 side-by-side and commenced their battle for the win right down to the waiving checkered flag. For the second week in a row, the MTS 2020 MADDOG $ERIES presented by Advanced Media Solutions decided by a ‘photo finish’ that came down to the digital transponders decision – an amazingly close separation of just 0.033 seconds decided the finish, giving Sheely his second Main event win of the series.

Meanwhile, Zach Bailey and Matt Johnson had their own exciting duel for the third and final position on the podium in Victory Lane – a 0.13 separation gave Bailey his second straight trip to the podium.

The MTS 2020 MADDOG $ERIES presented by Advanced Media Solutions returns to the MTS LIGHTNIGHT SPEEDWAY for Round #5 of the 8-race series on Saturday July 11th before heading to the FLYING DUTCHMEN MOTORCYCLE CLUB’s ultra-fast 3/8-Mile Oval for official American Motorcyclist Association District 23 points paying action on July 18th & 19st.
