"Daum tops Cornfest field at Angell Park"
Sun Prairie, Wi., Aug. 19---Zach Daum won " 39th annual Miller Lite Cornfest Racing Classic" Sunday Night at Angell Park Speedway. The event was co-sanctioned by the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League, and the Zimbrick Chevrolet of Sun Prairie Badger Midget Racing Series.
Maria Cofer and Daum started on the front row for the event, with Cofer getting the jump at the start leading the opening lap. Daum kept pace with Cofer, passing Cofer for the lead entering Tun 3 on the fifth lap. Daum, Cofer, and Jason McDougal pulled away from the field. At the midway Daum began lapping the tail of the field.
Daum continued to lead McDougal and enjoyed a 1,8 second lead over the Oklahoma driver, with ten laps remaining. McDougal closed to within five-car lengths of Daum, when the caution appeared on Lap 24, for a stalled car.
On the restart Daum quickly pulled away to a four- car length advantage. POWRi points leader Tucker Klaasmeyer passed McDougal for second place, with two laps remaining. Daum driving the Wayne Green owned Bullet-Toyota no. 5 finished 0.97 seconds ahead of Klaasmeyer, McDougal, Tyler Thomas, and Tanner Carrick.
“This is our first midget win of the season, and first since last year’s Pepsi Nationals here, always great to win here. It’s great to get a win for my New Zealand car owner Wayne Green his first in America” stated Daum who became the 22nd different Cornfest midget feature winner.
Scott Hatton holds 116-point lead over Ryan Probst heading in to the heading into the Sep. 1-2 doubleheader weekend at Sycamore (Ill.) Speedway on Saturday night, and on Sunday’s “Kevin Doty Classic” at Angell Park.

---2017 BCRA Midget Champion Maria Cofer made her Angell Park debut, twenty-eight years earlier her father Johnny Cofer finished third in the 1990 Cornfest feature behind Marty Davis, and Dan Boorse.
---The victory was Daum’s fifth career Angell Park feature victory.
