Winston See’s Seven Feature Winners on Holiday Weekend

Rothbury, Michigan (Saturday, July 5th, 2014): The race fans in Rothbury, Michigan were treated to a great holiday weekend racing program at the fast 3/8ths (0.375) mile high banked dirt oval of the Winston Speedway. The show featured racing from the UMP DIRTcar Late Models, UMP DIRTcar Modifieds, UMP DIRTcar Street Stocks, Factory Stocks / Bombers, Four-Cylinder Warriors, Four-Cylinder Mini Stocks, and Young Guns making up the full 7 in 1 show. The night was capped off by a performance by the Phoenix Rising Fire Arts, and a great fireworks display.

The 10-lap feature event for the Young Guns started things out with Heidi Barnhard and Bailie Wynbelt starting on the front row. Morgan Smith would weave her way to the lead and once she was in the clean air she would never have to look back from there as she went on to pick up the win. Kristina Johnson finished in the second spot. Gabe Flores, Wynbelt, and Madison Crane rounded out the top five. The heat race was won by Trent Musk.

This was the third win of the season for the Muskegon, Michigan driver. Kristina Johnson finished in the second spot. Gabe Flores, Wynbelt, and Madison Crane rounded out the top five. The heat race was won by Trent Musk.

The Four-Cylinder Mini Stocks held their 12-lap feature. The field was led by Brian Carson and 2011 track champion Paul Namey. Once the green flag waved Namey burst out to the front with speed and left everyone else alone. He would manage to hold his line throughout the entire event and went all the way from green to checker for the win.

The 56-year old from Ada, Michigan driving the River City Motors / Honda The second place finish went to Carson. Chad Tomczak and Bob Halberstadt completed the field.

Kendall Marlink and the defending track champion Sadie Klein led out the UMP DIRTcar Street Stocks for their 20-lap main event. Klein took the early advantage once the race was underway. She would hold a commanding lead over the field until a caution occurred, leaving just one lap to go, and off the restart the defending UMP DIRTcar Stock Car National Champion Josh Frye managed to work his way around and take the lead to cross the line first for the win.

Frye, the 30-year old from Coopersville, Michigan driving his Driftwood Bar & Grill / Chevrolet picked up his fourth victory on the season. Klein had to settle for second. Marlink, Jim Beltz, and Derek Poland made up the rest of the top five. Jeremy Holman and Poland won the heats.

Defending track champion Andy Sprague and defending UMP DIRTcar Modified Michigan State Champion David Mielke led out the field for the 20-lap UMP DIRTcar Modified feature. The green flag waved and the lead was taken early by Mielke. Sprague would get enough momentum to get close to Mielke in the middle of the race, but Mielke found more momentum as well allowing him to put enough distance between him and Sprague to hold and sail to pick up the win.

This was the 22-year old Gladwin, Michigan driver’s seventh win this year at Winston Speedway in the Krompetz Elevators / Rocket by Ruhlman Racecar. Sprague took the second place finish. Jeff Erickson Jr., Collin Thirlby, and Derek Passiner finished the top five. The heats were won by Erickson and Dean Wilkerson.

Billy Frey and Dan Wilson Jr. led the field down to chief starter Mike Lee’s green flag for the start of the 30-lap A-Main. Wilson took the lead after lap one, while everyone else battled for position behind him. The race would experience a slew of cautions. However Wilson would never falter holding the top spot all the way until the end.

The 35-year old from Muskegon, Michigan scored his fifth win of the season in the A&A Manufacturing sponsored machine. Mike Roe was the runner up. Paul Tenbrink, Bob Erickson, and Bethany May rounded out the top five. Josh Grabe and Tenbrink were the heat winners.

Finally, the Four-Cylinder Warriors entered the speedway for a 12-lap contest. The front row consisted of Gary Larabee and Melissa Sprague. However when things got underway, it would be Mike Goodwin shooting to the front of the field, and never looking back from there he would go to get the checkered flag for the win.

The Muskegon, Michigan native earned his fifth win of the year. Chris Gagnon was the second place finisher. Randy Larabee, Sprague, and Buck Spencer completed the top five. Gagnon was the winner of the lone heat race.
