Key Amasses First POWRI Top-Ten Finish

BELLEVILLE, Ill. – Though the 2016 season got off to a rough start for Kameron Key, the Warrensburg, Mo. driver rebounded with a strong showing in the POWRi Outlaw Micro Series opener. At Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Ill. on Friday night, Key raced his way to a tenth-place finish.
A huge car count of 53 micro sprints visited the fifth-mile oval in hopes of capturing the checkered in the POWRi event. Seven heat races were on tap; for Key, the night got underway in heat six, from grid position six. He solidified his point total with a third-place run, and barely missed out on making the top 14 in points, which would have qualified him directly for the main event. Instead, Key would have to go through a B-Main to get there. The setback was no challenge for the driver of the NPS Racing Engines No. 7JR, as he started on the pole and handily took the victory.
From 16th on the grid in the 20-lap feature race, Key raced for position mainly amongst Belle-Clair Speedway weekly competitors. Though the track had become extremely slick through numerous events throughout the night, the 20-year-old expertly navigated past six others, mostly in the final nine laps of action. In the end, Key came away with the first POWRi top-ten of his career, in his fourth attempt.

Key is next scheduled to compete on April 22 at Newton Kart Klub in Newton, Iowa under the Heartland Micro Sprint Association banner in the Waters Motorsports No. 7JR 600cc micro sprint entry.
Key is currently seeking sponsorship opportunities for his 2016 sprint car season, in which he will compete at the 410 cubic inch level in approximately 15 races in Missouri and Illinois, in primarily winged competition, but in nonwing appearances as well.
