Cottage Grove Speedway would be in action for the second night of the King Of The West Kage Kart on Sunday August 31st. It would be a great night of racing at the historical facility.

In the Pee Wee main event Trevor Grimes of Medford would take over the early race lead on the first lap. Grimes, in his Grimes Racing Engines #100 RFC, would briefly lose the lead around lap four to the Dave Foote Motorsports/Nexdor Tobaccos and More/Trupp Family Race Team #72 QRC of Jayden Trupp from Coos Bay. Trupp would make contact with a lapped kart sending him off of the track resulting in Grimes back in the lead. Grimes would be out in front the rest of the way to win the race sweeping the weekend.

Elkton’s Gavyn Woody was second in his Mary’s Gateway Laundry/Les Schwab Tires-Cottage Grove/Harris Machine and Design/Ken Stevenson Trucking #75W QRC followed by the Horner’s Inc. #88 QRC of Cottage Grove’s Nikolas Lundquist in third. Joshua Baker from Eugene was fourth in his Froggy’s Towing/Opie Motorsports/Bigg Dogg Recycling #28J QRC and Jayden Trupp ended up in fifth place.

Seth Riggs of Eugene was the one to beat in the 5HP feature. Riggs, driving his Riggs Racing #32R Hubbard, would master the restarts and pull away from the rest of the field to earn the win for the first time this year.

The Stere Racing #32S QRC of Cottage Grove’s Isaac Stere was the runner-up and Austin Sause, also from Cottage Grove, was third in his Wheeless Trailer Sales/Cooper’s Pest Control/Central Coast Vacuum/Umpqua Survival #7 QRC. Brookings native Ashleigh Strain was fourth in her Bauer Auto Body/Eugene Skydivers #32A QRC while in fifth would be the Gibson Taxidermy/Seven Feathers Casino Resort/HighLine Image and Design #8A QRC of Abby Ellison out of Roseburg.

The 125cc main event would be the only main event that went incident free. Conner Hanson from Creswell would stay out in front the rest of the distance to put his Hanson Contract Cutting/SKS Racing/BC Motorsports/DT Motorsports #55H QRC in the winner’s circle for the third time in 2014.

Kyle Roles of Lebanon was a respectable second in the Knothole Market/Big Sky Landscaping/Clayton’s Cornwell Tools/Rebecca’s Barber Shop #02 QRC entry followed by the Destiny Smith Motorsports #18S QRC of Sutherlin’s Destiny Smith in third. Completing the finishing order in fourth would be Jesse Bonnichson of Cottage Grove in the Dale Troutman owned DT Motorsports/Body Works Salon/Marvin Smith Auto Repair/Boyce & Sons Landscaping and Building Materials #53 QRC.

The 250cc main would be a caution filled affair. Custin Jones of Lebanon would be the early race leader in his Burke’s Metal Recycling/The Knothole Market #48C QRC. Jones would get passed by Eugene’s Tyler Goss for the lead shortly after a restart but on the following restart Bailey Hibbard, from Medford, got control of the top spot. Hibbard would dominate the rest of the distance to put his C&H Motorsports/Tangible Real Estate Investments/Dave’s Carpet and Vinly Liquidators #1 QRC in victory lane for the second night in a row and the fourth time overall this year at CGS.

The Goss Family Racing #21 SKE of Alex Goss of Eugene was second followed by Custin Jones in third. Tyler Goss would place his Goss Family Racing #22 QRC in fourth and the Mary’s Gateway Laundry/Les Schwab Tires-Cottage Grove/Harris Machine and Design/Ken Stevenson Trucking #75 QRC of Jayden Woody from Elkton was fifth.

Last but not least the Open Kage would put on a good show. The first half would see several yellows taking away lapped traffic as a factor. Each restart David Lyons of Roseburg managed to keep his Independent Motor Rebuilders/Grandma Enterprises/Hull Family Photography #98 QRC in front.

But not too long after the halfway point of the fifty lap feature Kyle Alberding, out of Winston, would work his way to the front and make a pass around Lyons on one of the final restarts. Alberding would go untouched the rest of the way to win his second race in a row and sweep the King of the West weekend in his Eoff Electric Supply/WSK Machine #76 QRC machine.

David Lyons was second and in third would be Jake Ferguson of Cottage Grove in his Comfort Suites of Salem/Dragonflydecals.com/Quantum Chassis #22J Quantum. The Desbiens Racing #2D QRC of Dallas’ Cooper Desbiens was fourth and Roseburg native Matt McDowell was fifth in his Gibson Taxidermy/Seven Feathers Casino Resort/HighLine Image and Design #8M RFC.

The Kage Karts are back in action on Friday September 5th for their next round of action while Saturday the 6th the ¼-mile will host the Wingless Nationals presented by Herz Precision Parts/South Lane School District Back To School Night. Classes in action include the Northwest Wingless Tour, USAC Midgets, Modifieds, and Hornets. For more information log on to www.cottagegrovespeedway.com.
