Sanders takes home night two of USRA Nationals at Webster City

Rodney Sanders was back in the winner’s circle Friday after claiming a United States Racing Association (UCRA) Nationals preliminary night win aboard his Wichita Tank Racing No. 20 Kenny’s Tile/ ARMI Contractors/ MB Customs/ Hatfield Racing Engine Modified.

“We had a great weekend at Hamilton County Speedway. I always enjoy racing there,” said Sanders. “We had a really fast car all weekend. I really liked our chances for Saturday night’s finale, but we came up just short. We were on the podium every night, so we’ll take it and head to the next one. We’re going to take this weekend off to regroup and decide where to race next.”

Rodney Sanders headed to Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City, Iowa on Thursday night to kickstart the three-day event. In a field of 21 cars, Sanders jumped up spot in his heat race to pick up the 8-lap victory.

Starting the $500-to-win A-Main in seventh, Rodney gained five spots in the 20-lap affair to register a runner-up finish behind Lucas Schott with Jake Gallardo, Fito Gallardo, and Jacob Bleess rounding out the Top-5.

The following night, Rodney secured his spot into the main event with a third place finish in his heat race. Rolling off fifth, Sanders wrestled away the lead from Jake Gallardo on lap 12 and led the remaining eighth circuits to capture his 18th win of the season and a $500 payday with an additional $140 for his 14 USRA starts during the 2020 season. With preliminary results from Thursday and Friday setting the grid for Saturday night’s finale, Sanders locked into the second-starting position for the $2,000-to-win main event. Losing one spot in the 40-lapper, Rodney notched a third place finish behind Lucas Schott and Jake Gallardo with Jacob Bleess and Josh Angst completing the Top-5 finishers.
