Pifer Gets the Ball Rolling at Mercer

MERCER, Pa. – When Darren Pifer’s season started with fuel issues the first race and a night-ending collision the second race, the team was searching for a finish to build on going forward. “Still a long way to go, but getting closer,” Pifer said of Saturday’s result at Mercer Raceway Park, where he finished 13th.
The 305 sprint entries on the night totaled 18 at the western Pennsylvania three-eighth-mile. A high number in pill draw slated Pifer starting near the rear of his heat race, and he was unable to move toward the front en route to a ninth-place result.
In the 20-lap main event, the Niagara Cutter No. 23 had 17 cars in front of it, rolling off from the scratch position. Unfortunately for anyone starting near the tail of the field, the track conditions weren’t fruitful for passing, and the bottom lane was preferred amongst all the competitors. Pifer still made every effort to claw his way forward, earning five positions throughout the race to take 13th. “Just had to wait for someone to make a mistake to pass,” Pifer noted of the bottom-favored racing surface via his Twitter account after the night’s events, before expressing excitement for the opening of nearby Thunder Mountain Speedway in nearby Knox Dale. “Going to feel good getting to race two nights a week starting next week.”
Pifer would like to thank Niagara Cutter, Seco Tools, Jeane Pifer Photography, Good’s Auto Body, and Betram Motorsports, as well as his family and fans for their continued support.
Pifer is next scheduled to compete on May 16 at Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, Pennsylvania in the No. 23 305ci Sprint entry.
