MERCER, Pa. – Over a long Pennsylvania winter made even longer by multiple weather-forced cancellations, Darren Pifer was finally able to get his season underway at Mercer Raceway Park, though without the result they were looking for.
20 cars signed in for the Outlaw Sprint Warrior 305 division at the three-eighth-mile Pennsylvania oval; Pifer was set to start the first of two heat races from outside of the front row. On the start, he fell to fourth, where he’d run for the remainder of the eight-lap race.
After a redraw for starting position for the 20-lap feature, Pifer would take the green flag from 12th on the grid. He’d ride in the 12th spot for the first six laps before taking the No. 23 J&J back to the trailer with fuel issues, stating that the fuel pill was forcing the engine to burn too rich, thus hindering performance. “We will get it figured out and be back next week,” Pifer assured after the race. “It’s just good to be back in a race car again.”
Pifer would like to thank Niagara Cutter, Seco Tools, Jeane Pifer Photography, Good’s Auto Body, and Betram Motorsports, as well as his family and fans for their continued support.
Pifer is next scheduled to compete on April 25 at Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, Pennsylvania in the No. 23 305ci Sprint entry.
