Hill Posts Season-Best Ninth-Place Finish in Debut at Volunteer Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – BULLS GAP, Tenn. (May 19, 2021) – Alex Hill recorded a top-10 result last Saturday night during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour debut at Volunteer Speedway.
“Our night went okay, but it could’ve been better,” said Hill, whose ninth-place finish moved her into the top 10 in the ASCS National Tour championship standings. “It was a different type of track with the banking. I didn’t get comfortable with it until after the qualifier.”
Hill started last in the 11-car feature.
“I moved up to ninth and was trying to pass for eighth about halfway through the race,” she said. “I tried a little too hard and spun out. I restarted last again and then got back to ninth. I was challenging for eighth at the end, but ran out of laps.”
The ninth-place outing was the best of the season for the Hill’s Racing Team driver.
For most of the evening, Hill sought to find comfort in a car she wasn’t used to while racing on a track that was new to her. She placed sixth in both a heat race and a qualifier.
“I was driving the Cool chassis that I raced last year since the J&J was damaged last week,” she said. “The Cool car is a good car, but it was difficult going back to it since I’ve gotten used to the J&J this year.
“Between a different car and a new track, it was kind of tough getting comfortable and I fell back a bit in my heat race. I kept working on getting used to it in the qualifier. But it started feeling better in the feature and I was able to move forward a bit.”
Next up for Hill will be a pair of ASCS National Tour events this weekend when she will visit Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Ill., on Friday and I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., on Saturday.
“Tri-City will be another new track for me,” she said. “It seems like we’ve had a lot of those lately. But I enjoy visiting new tracks. I-30 hasn’t been one of my better tracks so it will be good to get some more laps there.”
