Inside Line Promotions – SIX NATIONS, Ontario, Canada (Sept. 9, 2020) – Alex Hill is looking forward to returning to racing with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour this Saturday following an extended layoff of a month.
Hill plans to compete at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., during the Casey’s General Store Midwest Fall Brawl. It will be her first time in a sprint car since racing at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, on Aug. 9.
“I’m excited to get back to racing after being off for so long,” she said. “We had been doing pretty well before the layoff and I hope we can keep that going this Saturday and for the rest of the season.”
Hill has spent her time away from racing back home in Canada, where she quarantined and then began her senior year at California State – Los Angeles through online classes due to COVID-19.
“My father and I both had to quarantine for 14 days after we returned home from Iowa, which is the requirement for all Canadians who return to the country,” she said. “I tested for the virus and it was negative.
“I started online classes a couple of weeks ago and I’ve been trying to spend as much time with family and friends before I leave this week for a while.”
Because of Canadian quarantine restrictions, Hill will remain in the U.S. after returning to race this week until her racing season is finished.
“Since I have to quarantine for 14 days each time I go home it doesn’t work out for me to do that with my racing,” she said. “I’ll probably stay in the U.S. until late October or November.”
Saturday’s race at I-80 Speedway will present a challenge for Hill that she’s become accustomed to – another race at a track she’s never visited before.
“The first time I saw I-80 was when I watched the Outlaws when they were there recently,” she said. “While it will be my first time there, my crew chief, Daryl, has been there before and I’m confident he’ll give me a good car.”
