Ramey Takes Two Podiums in One Night

SWEET SPRINGS, Mo. – With what seemed like an eternity of rainouts, a complete show was finally able to run its course at Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex. After the last full order of events was completed on May 2, a May 23 attempt was cut short after the conclusion of B-Main competition, and the makeup feature events were able to be ran preceding the regularly scheduled events on Saturday. All in all, Gunner Ramey was able to continue his impressive streak of top-fives this season, stretching the run to five, with two third-place finishes.
Back on May 23, Ramey started his heat race from third, and wound up second in the ten-lap contest. With 14 cars scheduled to take the green in the restrictor division, the skies opened up and dumped too much rain on the track for the action to continue.
Another weekend of rain pushed the makeup events back one more week, and set up a doubleheader of events. Going ninth, Ramey navigated his Pace Chassis promptly through the field, which had shrunk to 11 after some entrants didn’t return. Disaster struck when a car pulling to the infield trapped the Impact Signs No. 28 with nowhere to go, forcing him to stop and bringing out the yellow. Rejoining the race at the tail for the restart, he didn’t appear flustered at all, and powered back through the pack to garner the third step on the podium.
13 restrictor class competitors were signed in for the regular show. After gridding fifth in the second and final heat race, Ramey moved forward one position to finish fourth. The feature lineup, again determined by point average, set the Smithton, Mo. racer deep in the order, in tenth. With another slick racing surface, strong runs from the back to the front have become the norm for Ramey, and there would be no exception. Storming through traffic with familiar foe Luke Howard, who he battled much of last season, Ramey again captured third place.
Ramey would like to thank Impact Signs Awnings & Wraps, Sure Coat Powdercoating, Rob Sneed Shorthorns, McKinney Construction, Ramey Dirtworks, Southwest Storage, 8760 Service Group, Rod End Supply, Factory Kahne Midwest, MYCHRONTOM, and Quick Engineering, as well as his family and the Renfro, Houston, and Cornell families for their continued support.
Ramey is next scheduled to compete on June 13 at Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex in Sweet Springs, Mo. in the No. 28 600cc micro sprint entry.
