TBJ grabs 4th-place result at CAR

Tom Berry Jr. returned to Central Arizona Raceway (Casa Grande, Arizona) on Thursday to kick off the second week of the six-race Ernie Mincy Early Thaw at the 3/8-mile speed plant. He left the event with another top-five finish.

After scoring a Modified win and a runner-up result during the program's first weekend, Berry continued his success when the event got back underway on Thursday evening with 36 IMCA Modifieds filling the pit area. Berry drove his Mike Wedelstadt-owned No. 77 ride to a fourth-race finish in his heat, positioning him 12th on the grid to start the 20-lap A-Main. He marched forward to take fourth in the $1,000-to-win race, finishing behind Chaz Baca, Kollin Hibdon and Michael Leach. Ricky Alvarado claimed the fifth spot.

However, Berry’s good fortunes changed on Friday in a 41-car Modified field. Berry suffered a mechanical issue his heat race, relegating him to an eighth-place finish and ending his night short of the 20-lap, $1,000-to-win main event. He was also unable to compete in Saturday night’s $1,000-to-win finale.
