Cocopah sweep for Tom Berry Jr.
Tom Berry Jr. took on Cocopah Speedway (Somerton, Arizona) on Thanksgiving weekend and left the 3/8-mile oval with a pair of first-place finishes.
Driving the No. 91 car, Berry Jr. was one of 17 IMCA Modified drivers entered in the Turkey Classic Harvest Hustle at the “Diamond in the Desert.”
On Friday, Berry won his heat race and started third in the 20-lap A-Main. He took the lead with three laps to go and claimed the victory by 3.170 seconds over Jason Beaulieu. Robby Sawyer, Mike Wedelstadt and Ryan Roath completed the top-five finishers.
On Saturday, Berry once again drove his Lethal Chassis to a victory in his heat. He started the 20-lap main event from the pole and wired the field to take his second checkered flag in as many nights. Berry scored the win by 5.800 seconds over Beaulieu, with Wedelstadt rounding out the podium. Russell Allen and Sawyer finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
The victories were Berry’s 15th and 16th of the year overall in 2023. He won three consecutive feature events to close out his season, with a total of 38 top-fives and 51 top-10s throughout the year.
