Despite some rain the night before, and a brief shower in the evening, Cottage Grove Speedway would complete all scheduled events for Saturday August 29th. The historical 1/4-mile clay oval would have a big boost in car count too as a couple of tracks to the north had rained out. The Clark Printing Extreme Sprints would be in the house racing for $1,000.00 courtesy of Herz Precision Parts. The IMCA Modifieds, Late Models, Street Stocks, and Quality RV Repair Hornets were also in attendance.
The opening lap of the Clark Printing Extreme Sprint main event would have Patrick Dills take the early race lead. Dills, of Cottage Grove and driving the Jacob Daniels Attorney at Law/Oregon State Representative Cedric Ross Hayden/M.D. Yearous Logging #5D KPC, would dominate the field. However disaster would strike on lap six when his mount would pop out of gear but fortunately he would be able to rejoin the field.
This would give the position to Monroe, Washington's Jake Helsel. The deyounginc.com/Superior Powdercoating/ODS Synergy Composites/Shark Racing Engines #44 Rocket, of Helsel, would set a quick pace but eventually was passed on lap nine by Raquel Ivie. Ivie, of Eugene, was dominant in her Three Rivers Casino/Bi-Mart/Brook's Cut Rate Auto Parts/BC Motorsports #70 XXX.
Ivie appeared to have race won bur she would be passed on the final lap headed into turn one. The Redmond Trucking/Umpqua Sand & Gravel/Double R Powdercoating/Ken's Dry Cleaning #12 J&J of Orion Redmond. The Roseburg driver would secure the lead exiting turn two and be the first to the start-finish line. It would mark the second time that Redmond has been victorious at CGS.
The IMCA Modifieds would have some bonus money up for grabs courtesy of the fine folks at Crocker's Cars. They would add an additional $600.00 to the purse. The Modified feature would be non-stop from green to checkered.
The Commonwealth Financial Network/Dot's Trophy Shop/Mickey's Affordable Auto Sales/Superior Fuel Cells #77 X-Factor of Kreg Britton would be the leader for the first nine laps. On lap ten the Cottage Grove native, of Britton, would surrender the position to Corbett's Collen Winebarger. Winebarger, chauffeuring his Discount Race Car Parts/Frisbie Motorsports/FinishLine Graphics/Checkered Flag Paving & Sealcoating #S Shaw by Taylor, would remain in the desired position the rest of the way to win his first race at Cottage Grove in 2015.
Winebarger was not done yet. Pulling off double duty he would hop in his Discount Race Car Parts/Frisbie Motorsports/FinishLine Graphics/Checkered Flag Paving & Sealcoating #S MasterSbilt moments after winning the Modified main event.
Justin Duty of Molalla was the leader of the first few laps in the Don Frank Flooring/Mid-Ohio Graphics/Big Sky Landscaping #15 Rocket. Duty lost the lead to Collen Winebarger on lap three until Winebarger was overtaken by Joey Tanner on lap six. Tanner, driving the Jimmy Schram owned Schram Brothers Excavating/Xtreme Motorsports/Bodies By Steve-O #113 MasterSbilt, would stay up front for a few laps too but Winebarger would get back by him shortly after a lap eight restart.
Winebarger would again lead the rest of the way to pull off the rare feat of winning in two classes on the same night. He had pulled off a similar achievement not long ago in the same two classes at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon.
In the Street Stocks Jasper's Andrew Langan was the leader of the first half of the feature. Langan, driving his D&L Truck Parts/Sierra Gear & Axle/West Coast Deferentials #74 Nova, lost the lead on lap ten. The driver taking over the top spot was Lebanon ace Kyle Yeack. Yeack would pull away in his Cascade Power Equipment/Laura Gillott at Keller Williams Reality/R.G.S. Performance/Unlimited Business Service #47 Cutlass and went on to win his second race of 2015 at CG.
Last but not least the Quality RV Repair Hornets would put on a thriller of a main event. For the longest time K.C. Scott of Springfield would pace the field in the Dr. Vape Products/Quantum Mechanics/Big B Tires #30 Mazda Protege. But he would be heavily pressured just past the midway point by Pleasant Hill's Justin Austin. Austin would get the position on lap twelve only to lose it to Scott on lap thirteen.
Austin made one last attempt to get past Scott during a green-white-checkered scenario. Austin would get his Rapid Delivery Service/Bigg Dogg Recycling/A-1 Auto Supply/DT Machine & Fabrication #22A Toyota Tacoma in the lead and would win the race. It was the first time he has done so this year.
