Brandon Overton third in Super Bowl of Racing opener at Golden Isles
Kicking off his fourth full season on the road with the Wells and Sons Motorsports team, Brandon Overton unloaded his Muscle Factory No. 76 Late Model at Golden Isles Speedway (Brunswick, Ga.) on Thursday for the General Tire Super Bowl of Racing opener.
Amongst a stout field of 50 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries, Brandon timed in ninth-fastest in his group before going third-to-first in his heat race. Lined up fifth for the $10,000-to-win A-Main, Overton muscled forward two positions in the 40-lapper to register a third-place finish, chasing Hudson O’Neal and Jonathan Davenport to the checkers.
Returning to 4/10-mile oval on Saturday after Friday’s program fell to Mother Nature, Overton’s second-place finish in his heat race positioned him on the sixth row for the $25,000-to-win Super Bowl of Racing finale. Wheeling into the Top-5, Brandon passed seven cars to cap off the weekend with a fourth-place finish. He followed Ricky Thornton Jr., Chris Madden, and Jonathan Davenport across the line with Devin Moran coming in fifth.
