Hunt The Front Super Dirt Series

South Carolina's Trent Ivey commits to Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series

Following a solid 2023 season that produced four victories in just 23 starts, Trent Ivey has decided to tackle the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series in 2024. Highlighting Ivey’s season last year, the Union, S.C., native was able to bag a bucket list event when he won the 23rd annual Grassy Smith Memorial at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S.C. The victory, which paid $10,000-to-win and matched his career high, came with the Mid-East Super Late Model Series in the fledgling tour’s first-ever event.

The son of legendary South Carolina driver Petey Ivey, the 29-year-old has registered at least one win in each of the last five seasons since his first full season racing Super Late Models in 2019. The younger Ivey hasn’t put up gaudy numbers, but he does have a very respectable 120 wins in 15 years of competition, and often dips down to compete in some of the higher-paying Crate Late Model events in the Southeast. His Crate Late Model victory in last year’s World Short Track Championship at the Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., was his second straight.

Along with his four wins last season, which included a Southern All Stars Series victory at Cherokee, Ivey netted a pair of runner-up finishes and a third as well. In the two Carolina Clash features at Cherokee, he finished second and third and in Cherokee’s XR Workin’ Man-sanctioned Throwback 50, he grabbed a runner-up finish. Ivey has always fared well on the red clay at Cherokee, which he lists as his favorite track. In 2019 he picked up a $10,000 triumph in a Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals event there. It was one of his two victories at Cherokee that season.

Ivey, who will chase the Hunt the Front title in his family-owned, Clements-powered Longhorn, will no doubt be looking forward to Hunt the Front’s June 21-22 doubleheader at Cherokee, which pays $5,000-to-win on Friday and $20,000-to-win on Saturday.
