Binz Struggles with Loose Race Car in Return to Action at Kennedale Speedway Park

Inside Line Promotions - KENNEDALE, Texas (July 1, 2013) - Last weekend was not the return John Binz had anticipated.

After missing a couple of weeks to build a new mini sprint, Binz competed in a doubleheader on Friday and Saturday at Kennedale Speedway Park.

"We were terrible Friday," he said. "The driver did not show up Friday."

After starting eighth in his heat race and charging into the top five, Binz faded late to finish ninth. That started him 10th in the B Main, which didn't begin well.

"I hit the infield tire during the warm-up lap," he said. "I thought I could race it. I took the green and it just shoved all the way to the fence. So I just pulled off. That wasn't very good as a confidence booster."

Binz returned on Saturday, when he started on the outside front row of his heat race. He quickly took the lead before dropping to third.

"The car was too loose," he said. "I was just trying to manage what we had."

That placed him on the pole of the B Main, which Binz continued to struggle with a loose car to place fourth - the last transfer position.

"I kept missing the bottom just a little bit," he said. "I was too loose. I wasn't slowing enough to hit the bottom."

He started last - 24th - in the main event, but quickly worked his way toward the top 10.

"The track started to rubber up a couple of features before ours," he said. "I ended up getting three or four positions on the bottom on the start and I ended up just running right through the middle of the race track."

Binz had climbed to 14th when contact with another driver cut his tire, relegating him to a 16th-place finish to cap the weekend.

"It should have been way better," he said. "I think the car is a little different than it was. I think it's going to take some time to get it back. That's the tightest I've ever had and it was barely tight. It was weird. I don't know what's wrong with it."

Binz is scheduled to compete on Friday and Saturday at Mountain Creek Speedway in Grand Prairie, Texas.
