Martin and Elkins Top Night #1 at Gulf Coast Speedway
Uno! Night 1 of the Double Header event, the POWRi Lonestar 600's presented by K and K Earthworks take on down to Gulf Coast Speedway. Although the car count was below average. The action was way above & a show was provided for the viewers! 18 600's and 5 Restrictors check in for night.
Heats, let's do it. Restrictor heat takes off & your winner is Maverick Elkins. 3 heats hit the track for the 600's. Winners are Caleb Martin, Daison Pursley,& Weldon Buford.
Restrictors feature to the hot grid. Maverick Elkins & Daison Pursley lead the pack around for the green. Each driver find their line of choice & off they go. Elkins prevails after a short battle with a beautiful lead. He never looks back & parks it on the front stretch. Elkins is hanging & in high hopes to bag up the 2017 points championships he leads the points over Christopher Townsend by 121 points. 3 more races remain to catch the fast dude.
Alright, ladies & gents! Place your bets. The quick and short turns of Gulf Coast Speedway leave everyone guessing the 1st lap to take hold. Collin Traylor & Daison Pursley lead em' around to the waving green. Only to see Pursley take lift off from the wall. Pursley taking a wild, bucking ride into turn one. Tanner Dunlap collects & finds his lid. Mike Walling & Bash Ferguson also find themselves amongst the rubble. All drivers check out okay. Pursley & Walling retire for the night. Dunlap & Ferguson are ready to get up on the wheel once again. Back to racing. The top 5 look as is wild broncos have taken transformation of the micros. Close racing & a bit too much rubbing. Collin traylor leads. Weldon Buford, Jacob Lucas & Caleb Martin are chasing it down. Lucas trying every angle, breaks going into turn one with a broke right rear torsion stop. He retires. Green back out. Martin hunts it down. Finds himself the line & snags the lead. Stretching out & finding lap track. 2 to go, Patrick Lundy pounces right off the back stretch going into 3. Found the trees, but thankfully, didn't try to climb them. Driver checks out okay & joins again. Green, white, checkers. Martin parks his #51 machine in victory lane.
Thank you to all drivers, crew, family & fans for joining our fun. Over all the night was smooth & smiles through out the evening. We'd like to think mother nature helped with a nice cool, breezy night.
