Dills Scores 7th-Place Result in Third 360 Sprint Car Start of Season

Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 21, 2016) – A couple of driver errors kept Patrick Dills from scoring a podium finish last Saturday in only his third time behind the wheel of a 360ci sprint car this season.

Dills had a very solid night going at Cottage Grove Speedway, where he qualified fourth quickest, was edged out for the win in the dash by a nose and finished fifth in his heat race.

“We were in the top six in points after the heat and eligible for the card redraw for the feature,” he said. “I drew the joker, which meant I could pick where I wanted to start in the feature and who I wanted to start inside of me. If I picked the second row and won I’d get an extra $150. So I picked fourth and picked Chelsea Blevins to start next to me. In hindsight I probably shouldn’t have given up the front row.”

At the drop of the green Dills settled into fourth before he missed the cushion in turn one.

“I fell back to like eighth or ninth,” he said. “I drove back up to fifth and blew it off the cushion out of turn four and hit the frontstretch wall a little. I dropped back to ninth with about four laps to go and I got back to seventh at the finish.

“The cushion was very thin and tricky. You had to get your elbows up and run the ragged edge. I’m not too disappointed. We showed we can compete with the big boys. I just need to work on my consistency. This is a confidence booster going into Speedweek (in July).”

Dills said the team may take the upcoming weekend off, although there is a chance he could compete on Saturday at Southern Oregon Speedway in White City, Ore.
