Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (Sept. 14, 2015) – Last Wednesday went up in smoke for Patrick Dills, who was competing in the Extreme Sprints class during the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event at Cottage Grove Speedway.

“I only got one lap in qualifying,” he said. “The motor let go on the second lap.”

Dills still qualified fourth quickest, but he was forced to scratch from the remainder of the night at the quarter-mile oval.

“I was really looking forward to running throughout the night,” he said. “All the Outlaw guys were there. It’d have been pretty awesome to have won that. It was a bummer, but it was bound to happen sooner or later. That’s the nice thing about this class. You can run the engines and not have to worry about freshening them up a lot because you get so much life out of them. It’s been running great. It ran really strong before it blew up.”

Dills was credited with a 14th-place result in the main event, which gives him a 39-point lead in the championship standings with only one race remaining. With a maximum of 70 points – including 10 show-up points – available, Dills will wrap up the championship by placing 15th or better in the main event. Only one race this season has fielded more than 15 cars in the class.

“Luckily we have some time to look into it before the next race (on Sept. 26),” he said.

Dills will put his 360ci engine in for that class’s season finale at Cottage Grove Speedway this Saturday. He ranks fifth in the championship standings and is only 16 points behind third place.
