Dills Captures Podium Finish to Extend Cottage Grove Points Advantage

Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (Sept. 7, 2015) – Patrick Dills powered to his 13th top-five finish of the season last Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway.

The efficient night gives Dills nearly a full race lead in the Extreme Sprints championship standings with only two races remaining this season.

“We added to our points lead a little bit,” he said. “I outqualified the other drivers right behind me in the standings and finished better in the heat race and in the main so we’re in a good position.”

Dills kicked off the night by qualifying third quickest around the quarter-mile oval.

“The track was really heavy in hot laps,” he said. “We went out to qualify second and it had already got pretty slick. We were quick time for a little bit and then a couple of guys who went out later beat us.”

A top-four qualifying spot earned Dills a position in the trophy dash, which he finished second in after lining up on the outside of the front row.

“The first start of the dash was called back because the guy on the pole jumped it going into turn three,” he said. “On the second start it was pretty slick through the center and I spun the tires. I was able to hold on to second.”

Dills then placed third in a heat race after an early miscue.

“In the heat I was up to second and going for the lead in turn three,” he said. “I was trying to transition down the track to get a run off turn four. I spun out and had to go to the back, but I came back to get third.”

That started him on the outside of the front row for the 25-lap main event.

“In the main the track was pretty slick through turns three and four and there was a lot of track still left on the bottom,” he said. “I dropped back to fourth on the start and then got back up to third. Second was only two car lengths ahead of me. The track was one lane around the bottom. I tried moving around a little bit, but the bottom was too good.”

Dills maintained a podium position throughout most of the feature before ending third, which marked his 10th top five of the season in the class.

He is slated to return to Extreme Sprints competition this Wednesday at Cottage Grove Speedway, which also hosts the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.
