Dills Finishes Eighth During First Problem-Free Race of the Season

Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (May 22, 2014) – Last Saturday marked the first night of his young sprint car career when Patrick Dills made it through a complete race without a steering issue.

“I finally ran the whole race,” he said. “I got really comfortable with the car.”

Dills opened the Northwest Extreme Sprints event at Cottage Grove Speedway by qualifying fifth quickest, which was only one spot out of advancing into the dash. He then finished where he started – seventh – in his heat race.

“The track was a lot different,” he said. “We were expecting the track to be a lot more tacky and it was really dry.”

That lined him up on the inside of the fourth row for the main event.

“I didn’t advance any positions, but I stayed with the guys running for fifth for a little bit,” he said. “Then I started changing up my line and they left me. I really got to feel out the car. I was running by myself, getting laps and getting comfortable.”

Dills finished with an eighth-place result to earn his second top 10 in three races this season.

“Now I feel like it’s full speed ahead,” he said. “I’m pretty confident going into this weekend.”

Dills is slated to compete this Saturday and Sunday at Cottage Grove Speedway for his first doubleheader of the year.
