Inside Line Promotions – SOMERTON, Ariz. (Jan. 13, 2015) – Shark Racing wrapped up the inaugural Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown at Cocopah Speedway last weekend.

Logan Schuchart and Jacob Allen combined to make the feature in all but two races, but it was an act of kindness that got the racing industry talking. Shark Racing loaned fellow Pennsylvania driver Ryan Smith an engine to compete during the final weekend after he endured a couple of mechanical failures.

“We have had a lot of people help us throughout the years,” Bobby Allen said. “That’s part of racing. You want to beat everyone, but you don’t want them sitting in the pits unable to race.”

Another highlight of the Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown came last Tuesday, when Schuchart earned a top five for Shark Racing. He advanced from seventh to fifth place in his heat race and won a qualifier to lock into the fourth starting position for the 30-lap main event.

Schuchart then challenged for a spot on the podium throughout the feature before finishing fourth.

“Tuesday night we had a good run,” he said. “I think the track was racy and we hit the setup good. I got to racing good with people in the heat races and got some passing points. It was a decent run. We were happy to at least get a top five.”

Schuchart said the team struggled to find the right setup on Friday and Saturday. After driving his way into the $12,000-to-win main event each night, Schuchart ended 17th and 24th, respectively.

“We definitely weren’t very good,” he said. “It’s a new track and we hadn’t figured out the setup. We were still searching for stuff and it just didn’t end well.”

Meanwhile, Allen advanced into the main event on Tuesday and Saturday, and he missed a transfer spot by one position on Friday.

“I felt good all week,” he said. “The biggest thing was getting up top. On Tuesday night I moved up there and started to feel comfortable. Once I did that I got more diverse and felt racy. There were a lot of tough drivers so it’s hard to always come out on top. I had fun all week and learned a lot all week.”

Allen finished with a 23rd-place result on Tuesday and Saturday to cap the Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown.

“It was a lot of fun,” he said. “The guys did a great job at the track. There was no pressure. Everyone got to hang out and enjoy themselves. It was a great way to start the year.”

Next up, Shark Racing will host its sixth annual Sharkfest from 5-11 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, at the New Oxford Social Pavilion. More information is available by visiting https://www.facebook.com/pages/Shark-Racing/561570593854948.
