Wheatley Posts Top-10 at Farmer City, IL
PETERSEN MEDIA- Though his week didn’t end great, it started nicely for Austen Wheatley, as he ran in the top five much of the night in Farmer City, IL, but after a late restat the youngster crossed the stripe in the 10th spot.
“After the stretch we have been having, I’m super excited with the tenth place finish,” said Wheatley. “Knoxville,? Well that’s a little different story.”
Lining up in the 10th spot Wheatley found himself in the middle of some of the greatest to ever strap in.
“It was nice not having to start behind everybody,” said Wheatley.
As the race got underway, Wheatley held his own inside the top 10, until the first caution waved on the 13th circuit.
Back underway, Wheatley benefitted from the lead four cars all spinning and found himself in the fifth slot.
On the next attempt at a restart, Wheatley held the fifth spot, as many of the drivers continuously attacked the high side of the speedway.
“We got going really well about the mid-way point with everyone railing the high-side,” Wheatley continued.
On the 28th circuit, the yellow waved, and bunched the field up in double file formation with Wheatley on the outside, and as the drivers hit the loud pedal, Wheatley got hung out to dry, and slipped back to the tenth spot.
“It was a little frusturating, but I’d much rather get shuffled back running in the top five, then in 20th. I’ll take the tenth and build off of that.,” he continued.
Saturday saw the series head to the Knoxille Raceway, and Wheatley would rather forget about the event.
“It’s almost not worth talking about,” he said with a smile.
Wheatley fought a tight racecar all night as he timed in 27th quick, and failed to make the feature.
