Van Dam Slowed by Tough Luck During Summer Thunder Sprint Series Race at Grays Harbor

Inside Line Promotions – ELMA, Wash. (June 5, 2017) – Henry Van Dam ran into misfortune to start last Saturday’s Summer Thunder Sprint Series event at Grays Harbor Raceway.

“I had a flat tire in hot laps so that cut it short,” he said. “Then a nozzle line came off as we were running around so we were losing power in qualifying. We didn’t know where we were setup-wise and the heat race didn’t mean anything so we ran the top trying to get it worked in.”

Van Dam timed in 14th quickest before he finished sixth in a heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the seventh row for the main event.

“The race went green to checkered without a caution,” he said. “We stayed on the top too long. I thought I could get the top worked in and it did for a little, but then it went away and we lost a couple of positions. There were some pretty good cars that started at the back and we were all racing each other. I dropped to the bottom and we were passing guys, but the race happened so quick. We needed a caution to bunch the field up.”

Van Dam maneuvered into the top 10 while using the high groove, but dropped to a 12th-place result once the bottom became the preferred line.

“You’ll have that from time to time in racing,” he said. “Not every night goes your way and Saturday certainly didn’t go our way.”

Van Dam will return to action on June 17 at Grays Harbor Raceway.
