Van Dam Finishes Second at Grays Harbor Raceway

Inside Line Promotions – ELMA, Wash. (Aug. 29, 2016) – Henry Van Dam is looking for that little extra to get him over the hurdle after he finished one spot shy of reaching Victory Lane last Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway.

“It’s always a good night when you can roll it back in the trailer and learn something, but we didn’t reach our goal,” he said. “It doesn’t seem like we can get our finger on a full night.”

Van Dam opened the event by setting quick time during qualifying before he advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race.

“I thought we had good grip through the majority of the night,” he said. “In the feature the track ended up being a little bit narrow, but we didn’t have enough speed in the car. We tried to move around the race track and couldn’t make anything happen. We lost some spots throughout the race and ended up getting them back. We’re close, just not close enough to be at the level we’ve been the last couple of years there.”

Van Dam battled for a spot on the podium throughout the feature before ending second.

“Early in the night we had good balance in the car and we were able to move around on the track and pass cars,” he said. “Everything looked pretty good. We just didn’t have the side bite we needed to roll the bottom like the other guys could (in the feature). We were hoping the track would widen out and give us some options. Every car was on the bottom. I was the only one trying the top.”

Van Dam is scheduled to return to action with a busy weekend featuring races on Friday and Saturday at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., and Monday at Grays Harbor Raceway with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. He will also compete on Sunday at Grays Harbor Raceway with the Summer Thunder Sprint Series.
