Van Dam Gets Flat Tire While Leading Main Event at Skagit Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (Aug. 15, 2016) – Henry Van Dam was on pace to garner another feature win last Saturday at Skagit Speedway before bad luck appeared.
Van Dam kicked off the night by qualifying fourth quickest. He then advanced from third to second place in a heat race to make the feature inversion.
“In qualifying we were decent,” he said. “The track was starting to get a little chunky. We were a little snug so we killed a little bit of our time. It was still a respectable time.
“In the heat race we were able to get under a guy and slide in front of him to get to the second spot. We had a restart with three or four laps to go and I was able to get under the leader. I didn’t want to push the issue so I backed off going into turn three. I felt like we had a really good car.”
Van Dam lined up on the outside of the second row for the main event.
“I got a really good start and was able to clear the inside row down the frontstretch,” he said. “I dove to the bottom and had the lead out of turn two. It stayed green and I think we had the lead for five laps before a caution came out. On a restart I must have ran over something going into turn one. By the time I got into turn three my tire was halfway flat and by the time I got back to turn one it was on the rim. We had about a two-inch gash.”
Van Dam went to the work area to replace the tire during the caution and he tagged the back of the pack for the restart.
“We went out for one lap and a couple of guys wrecked in front of us to bring out a red flag,” he said. “We talked about it and decided to save our equipment and go home.”
Van Dam exited the race early and was credited with a 15th-place finish.
He is slated to take this weekend off before resuming competition on Aug. 27 at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash.
