Van Dam Doubles Previous Wins Record With Sixth Triumph of Season

Inside Line Promotions – ELMA, Wash. (Aug. 24, 2014) – Henry Van Dam has already doubled his previous record of feature victories in a season.
Van Dam captured his sixth triumph of the year on Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway.
“Things were good again,” he said. “I’ve been very fortunate with everything that has gone on this year. I got a good qualifying lap, which starts the night off with good momentum. We were able to get around a couple of guys in the heat race, too.”
Van Dam set quick time in qualifying and advanced from fourth to second place in his heat race. The feature inversion then planted him on the pole for the 25-lap main event.
“We led every lap, but Colton (Heath) put some really good pressure on us,” he said. “We got off to a good start and were pretty comfortable. We were able to search around a little bit, but kept our momentum up. We caught lapped traffic and there were a couple of times I got into a group of cars that really slowed my momentum. (Heath) got inside of me a couple of times, but I was able to pick through the lapped cars and get a lead again.”
A caution occurred with approximately five laps remaining, which allowed the field to close within striking distance of Van Dam.
“I didn’t get a very good restart at all so it took me a couple of laps to build a lead up again,” he said. “We were good enough to get the win, but not comfortable enough.”
It marked his fourth victory of the season at Grays Harbor Raceway, where he will return next Sunday for a Summer Thunder Sprint Series event. He will compete with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series at the 3/8-mile oval the following night and at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore., on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
