Smith Caps Season with Seventh-Place Finish at Susquehanna

Inside Line Promotions – NEWBERRYTOWN, Pa. (Nov. 17, 2015) – Ryan Smith captured his 26th top 10 of the year during his season finale last Saturday at Susquehanna Speedway Park.

The event began with Smith drawing a high number, which sent him onto the track as one of the final qualifiers.

“I went out late,” he said. “It was going to be tough to catch the top six (which locked into the first three rows of the feature). The track kind of slowed up. I just couldn’t get locked in going out that late. I knew it’d be an uphill battle all day.”

Smith timed in 13th quickest, which lined him up on the inside of the second row for a heat race. He finished where he started to lock into the 13th starting position for the main event.

“I raced with Brock (Zearfoss) a little bit,” he said of his teammate for the event. “He got a better start and I got around him and (Steve) Buckwalter. Toward the end I was on (Brent) Marks and (Gerard) McIntyre, who kind of spun in front of us and that bottled us up. I got a good run on them and was able to get around them. If I started up front I could have ran up front. Everybody was the same speed.”

Smith posted a seventh-place finish with Zearfoss rounding out the top 10 to give two Warko Group cars top-10 finishes.

“It was good,” Smith said. “Both cars finished in the top 10. At least we didn’t tear anything up and we passed a couple of cars so it was a good night.”
