Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (June 26, 2018) – Robbie Price finished on the podium last Thursday during the opening night of the 47th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway, where he returned to his family owned No. 21P.

The native of Cobble Hill, British Columbia, advanced from seventh to fourth place in a heat race before he maneuvered from third to second in a qualifier. Price lined up seventh in the 25-lap preliminary feature and used a late restart to take the final spot on the podium.

“We were really rolling good,” he said. “I made some moves early and tried to keep my nose clean the rest of the race. I was battling with Wayne (Johnson) and had a restart at the end and was able to get by him. It was a good run and a good morale booster for all that’s happened the last few months.”

The second night of the Dirt Cup saw Price have a solid heat race with a second-place finish. He then ran second in a qualifier to again start the A Main on the inside of the fourth row. Unfortunately, Price was caught up in an accident on the opening lap, which led to a flip.

“On the first start, there was a bunch of torn up race cars on the backstretch,” he said. “On the second start, there was a bunch of torn up cars on the frontstretch. We all bottle-necked, ran out of room and had nowhere to go. That ended our night.”

The damage was too much to utilize that car for the final night so Price put together a new car with a frame he had sitting in the shop. He was scheduled to start fourth and unfortunately a tire fell off just as the lights went out to come to the green flag. After going to the pit area to have it put back on, Price had to start at the tail of the field. The 40-lap main event ended up going green-to-checkered with passing at a premium and he finished 18th.

“We hot lapped on Saturday night and had really good speed and the car felt good,” he said. “It was a really bum deal and I am disappointed in myself for not catching that. We had really good speed in the main event, but the track was really fast and you couldn’t go forward much. I was racing with a bunch of guys and by the time I got through that, it was too late and we were too spread out. I made some moves early and should have been more aggressive early and tried to get forward before everyone was spread out. There were a couple of guys that came up through the field, I just wasn’t one of them.”

Price’s next race is still to be determined. He is tentatively aiming to compete in a portion of the Speedweek Northwest in July.
