Scelzi Posts Pair of Top Fives at Placerville During Nor-Cal Posse Shootout

Inside Line Promotions – PLACERVILLE, Calif. (Sept. 26, 2017) – Dominic Scelzi’s confidence is brimming after a summer spent learning on the road.

Scelzi has taken his three months of competing with the best in the business and put that to work during his recent return to his home state of California, including last weekend when he scored a pair of top fives during the Nor-Cal Posse Shootout at Placerville Speedway.

The doubleheader began on Friday with Scelzi setting quick time during qualifying around the quarter-mile oval.

“We went quick time again so to time in as well as we’ve been timing in, I have so much confidence right now,” he said. “To go to a place I’ve always struggled at and to feel at home is huge. I’m so excited right now.”

The positive mindset continued as he advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race to be the driver with the most points, which locked him into the pole shuffle. Unfortunately, Scelzi pulled the highest number – eight – and he didn’t win his pole shuffle round. That lined him up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.

“I ran the bottom a couple of laps, but I made all my ground up around the top,” he said. “We were extremely fast. A lot of guys were struggling off turn four because the curb disappeared and it was slick. That place is so hard to pass cars because there isn’t a lot of room. If there were five more laps I think we could have run second. We had a really strong race car. To be able to go as far forward as we did was really good.”

Scelzi maneuvered to a fourth-place finish, which locked him into Saturday’s pole shuffle. This time Scelzi pulled the second-highest number – seven – and he didn’t win his round. That lined him up seventh for the A Main.

“The biggest thing for me is the top in turns one and two fell off the edge,” he said. “Late in the race nobody was running up there but me. I was able to run to the exit on the corner and get off really well. I was making a lot of time up in turns one and two because I was able to carry momentum.”

Scelzi advanced into the runner-up position and made a late-race bid for the win.

“We closed in on Cory (Eliason) with a couple to go, but a lapped car spun in front of us and I lost a lot of ground,” he said. “The car kept going and they didn’t throw a yellow. Cory made it through that a lot better than I did so we settled for second. It was an awesome weekend and I’m happy with the outcome.”

Scelzi, who finished second, will return to action this Friday and Saturday at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., for the Fall Nationals. He has three top fives at the bullring this season, including his career-best World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series finish of third earlier this month.
