Inside Line Promotions – PLACERVILLE, Calif. (April 18, 2017) – Dominic Scelzi is excited to return to one of his favorite tracks this weekend.

Scelzi will invade Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., on Friday and Saturday for the Peter Murphy Classic. On Friday night he will compete in a 360ci winged sprint car during the Sprint Car Challenge Tour portion of the event before piloting a 410ci winged sprint car in Saturday’s King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Sprint Car Series race.

“Whenever you go to Tulare you have to work your confidence up because it’s a daunting place,” he said. “I drive better the longer the weekend goes because I get more comfortable. Whoever can run the fence the hardest wins. That’s the mindset I’m going in with.”

Scelzi was victorious at the track in April of 2013 and he placed a season-best 12th at the bullring earlier this year with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

“We moved forward and had really good speed earlier this year,” he said. “The biggest thing is you have to unload quick and qualify well. If we can do that and get through the heat race we can be a contender.”

Scelzi competed last Saturday at Placerville Speedway with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.

“It was one of those nights when anything that could go wrong did,” he said. “When we hot lapped we weren’t turning RPMs and didn’t have speed. We changed the gear thinking the engine wasn’t getting revved up enough. That made it worse so we didn’t qualify well.”

Scelzi, who was driving for Nick McColloch, qualified seventh quickest in his group.

“We changed the ignition box, spark plugs, pretty much everything you can change to get a car to run,” Scelzi said. “We had no speed in the heat race and didn’t transfer through. Then in the B Main we went into turns one and two on the second lap and a car spun in front of us. We had nowhere to go and got a flat right rear tire that ended our night.”

Scelzi placed seventh in his heat race and was unable to finish the B Main.
