SW Sprints at Tucson Saturday, WCSP at Hanford
GUARDINO TAKES “FATHER’S DAY” WIN; ROSSI #1 AT CANYON
The USAC West Coast and Southwest Sprint cars continue action this week with respective races at Hanford, Calif. and Tucson, Ariz.
Danny Faria Jr. leads the West Coast contingent to Keller Auto Speedway at Kings Fairgrounds. Faria has an 80-point lead over Ryan Bernal. R.J. Johnson enjoys a 67-point lead over Charles Davis Jr. entering Saturday’s “Hot Summer Nights” Southwest race at USA Raceway in Tucson.
Rookie driver Tristan Guardino of Fremont, Calif. earned his first USAC West Coast Sprint victory Saturday night at Santa Maria (Calif.) Raceway. He led all 30 laps in his Steve Watt Enterprises/Maxwell Industries Maxim/Chevy. Brody Roa finished second ahead of Bud Kaeding, Trey Marcham and Richard Vander Weerd.
Matt Rossi of Glendale, Ariz. won Saturday night’s 30-lap “Father’s Day” USAC Southwest Sprint race at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Ariz. Wheeling the Apache Scapes/IWR Spike/Chevy, he led the last five laps for the win over Davis, Stevie Sussex, Mike Martin and Bruce St. James. Mike Colegrove, who led the first 25 laps, suffered a back injury in a flip and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
