KCP Racing and Gio Scelzi Bring 2020 Season to Close with Tough Two Night Swing in the Midwest

PETERSEN MEDIA- With Gio Scelzi having other commitments the next couple of weekends, the trip to Lakeside Speedway and Lake Ozark Speedway marked the end of the 2020 Campaign for Scelzi and KCP Racing.

“It certainly was not our weekend and was a really tough way to end our season,” Scelzi said. “In the few months we were able to race together, we got a ton better and it has us all very excited to go through the off season and come out strong in 2021.”

Friday night’s penultimate night in 2020 for the team saw them check in at Lakeside Speedway where Scelzi would time the Logan Contractors Supply, Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed No. 18 machine in 10th fastest in qualifying time trials.

Slipping back to a fifth-place finish in his heat race, Scelzi would move into the feature event where he would take the green flag from the 18th starting position.

Scelzi would have a short night however, as the Fresno, CA driver would get caught up in a wreck and it would lead to a broken rear axle.

Bouncing back and heading to Eldon, MO to take part in the Jason Johnson Classic on Saturday night at Lake Ozark Speedway, Scelzi would get off to a quick start as he timed in fourth fastest in time trials, and finished second in his heat race.

Making his way into the DirtVision Fast Pass Dash, Scelzi would pick up a third-place finish, putting him in the second row of the 41-lap feature event.

Running inside the Top-Five during the early goings of the race, contact with another car would ensue when the field was firing back up after a red flag. Contact would result in front wing damage for Scelzi and it would change the handling of his machine.

Doing all he could to hang on to a top five, Scelzi would slip back to sixth before contact from another car caused front end damage, that led to another car getting into a slowing Scelzi and bringing his night to another early end.

“Saturday night I made a really stupid mistake that cost us a chance at a top-five, and led to us being in a bad spot that ended our night early,” Scelzi added. “Not the ideal way to end our season, but I am really excited to get to work this offseason with the KCP Racing team.”

KCP Racing would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Ted’s Body Shop, Team Excavating, Cox Design and Fabrication, Armor Electric Company, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, BergenKDV, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.
