SEBASTOPOL, CA 8-21-10 - Sebastopol's Bradley Terrell will begin his final leg in the journey to his first ever career sprint car championship at his home track of Petaluma Speedway this Saturday in the coveted All-Pro point series. After a mechanical failure that resulted in an accident last Saturday, Terrell will look to increase his current 11-point advantage in the weekly series.
“I try not to think about the points to much because that can take your focus off out there,” said Terrell. “But when it’s close like this you can’t help but think about it a little bit. Basically I just need to go out there and hit all my marks and drive my best for the next two weeks. Hopefully our bad luck is behind us after this last weekend.”
Last Saturday night, Terrell entered the third to last point race of the season with a somewhat healthy point lead consisting of 20-digits. At the end of the night, Terrell’s point lead had diminished to just 11 points after an evening that could simply be summed up as, “a bad points night” with a DNF following a broken axle and a collision.
“It just wasn’t our night, it was looking like it was going to be a good points night for us but that changed quickly,” said Terrell. “I know we had a top three car or maybe even a winning car with the way we were running.”
After finishing fourth in his heat race, Terrell started on the outside of the second row of the 25-lap main Saturday night. With the waving of the green flag Billy Butler charged to the front with Mike Henry in his wake as Terrell muscled into the third position. Henry soon overtook Butler for the lead and Terrell closed in on Butler to challenge for the second position.
Late in the race a caution flag flew with just a pair of laps remaining. As the race restarted, Terrell accelerated down the front stretch and the rear axle snapped in the Scotty Dupont #3 sprint car. The failure brought him to a sudden stop where he was struck by oncoming traffic and unable to finish the event.”
This week is the first of just two remaining races. Terrell and car owner Scott Dupont are looking forward to a solid night where they can make up ground in the point standings and remain ahead of veteran driver Mike Benson who trails Terrell by 11-points.
“Scott has really been my savior this year,” said Terrell. “Our season would have ended after we lost the motor in the #43 car and he stepped in and basically handed me his car for the rest of the season. I’m really grateful and hopefully we can win this championship together.”
In the nine races that have taken place, Terrell has garnered seven top five finishes overall. He has won two different times this season.
