Eric Lutz
Going for it at Huset's
After a scramble to change motors Sunday afternoon, Lutz Racing Team arrived at Husets and drew 61 from the bucket. We can't draw to save our lives. That started us inside row 3 in our heat. It took Eric all of one lap to move into second. He almost got into Dusty down the backstretch, but settled in and finished second.
Of all the luck...Eric got to start on the pole for the feature!!! He got a great start off the line, getting about 4 car lengths on the outside guy. Eric went high into turn one and Cody Hansen stayed on the bottom and beat Eric off of turn two. The two would run one two up front with Eric closing in on Cody each lap. On lap 16 of 18, the caution came out for Jorden Martens who blew a tire and stopped at the top of 3/4. Eric was running up top and had to spin the car out to avoid hitting him, and stopped on the track. I thought we were screwed since he stopped, but it was determined that he spun to avoid hitting the stopped car and got his second place back. That set up the finish....
I could say just go watch the video, but I'll let you know that Eric went for it!! He went high in 1 and Cody was low. The both got good runs down the back and Eric crossed over to slide him in 3/4. As Eric got low, Cody turned to go into the turn low also and Eric ended up driving in the corner on the warm up lane, got airborn as he came down on the track and took the lead briefly...then spun infront of the field, kept the car going, and came home 9th.
Very exciting for the fans, and the crwod reaction indicated they appriciated his efforts and has many fans.
A long weekend coming up as the team heads to Jackson for the Spring Nationals Friday and Saturday and back to Husets on Sunday.
