Fischer Racing Adding 600cc Micro to 2019 Schedule

Fischer Racing’s season started early this year, running for Skip’s Performance Corner (SPC) in their 600cc non-wing micro sprintcar. Hunter Fischer will run the micro at Port City Raceway (PCR) in Tulsa, OK when he is not travelling with the POWRi West Midget Series. Flying Tee Golf is an added sponsor to the SPC house car for the 2019 season and we look forward to a successful year!

After a short 2.5 month break from the Tulsa Shootout, we joined the NOW600 micro series at Port City Raceway 3/14-3/16 for the season kickoff. In spite of chasing a gremlin that didn’t allow Hunter to rev beyond 12,500 rpm, Hunter was able to make the A feature in both Thursday and Friday shows, finishing 16th both times. We couldn’t make it out of the B feature with a 6th place finish on Saturday, still fighting that gremlin.

The following week would had been our kickoff to the POWRi National and West midget series, starting at Creek County Speedway on Thursday, travelling to OKC’s I-44 Speedway Friday and Saturday, and finishing at PCR on Sunday. Unfortunately, the Fischer Racing midget entry was still out of commission by not having the engine back from the shop in time. Some spectacular races were missed and we hated not participating in support of our fans!

151 cars showed up for the 8th Annual Donnie Ray Crawford Memorial on 3/29-3/30 at PCR for the 600cc micro sprints. This race holds a special place in Hunter’s heart as he grew up watch Donnie Ray since starting in the junior sprint class at age 6 and cherished the words of encouragement he would get from DRC at the track. Friday’s A feature was barely missed, coming in 4th place in the non-wing B2 feature and still chasing the cause of the rpm issue. The SPC team worked hard Saturday afternoon to eliminate that pesky gremlin by doing a full change of the fuel injection, wiring harness, and control boxes. Somewhere in that horsepower stew, the issue was eliminated and made the Honda sing once again! Hunter started his heat on the pole and left the competition in the dust with a commanding lead. That would put the #17 Flying Tee sponsored SPC house car in the 12th starting position of the A Feature. Picking cars off one-by-one, Hunter was able to pilot the RUJO chassis to a 7th place finish by the time checkers fell. Many thanks goes to Skip Wendt for racking his brain and finding the solution to the power issues!

Saturday 4/6 was a normal points race at the 1/8 mile Port City Raceway. With a heavy track, the setup was off the mark a bit for the heat race but we still qualified for the A feature. Originally slotted to start on the 2nd row, the outside pole car didn’t make it to the lineup, placing Hunter on the front row! The pole sitter had a hard time waiting for the start line and it took 3 restarts and a penalty before getting it right (8 minutes). We got 1 lap in before the first caution flag flew for a spun car, but we were solidly in 2nd place. Once racing resumed, Hunter searched for some moisture in the middle of the track and lost 2 spots before the next caution flag dropped. Now in 4th, a mixture of top and bottom lines didn’t find the advantage Hunter was looking for and another spot was relinquished. After a few more yellow flags and a Green/White-Checker restart, Hunter endured the 18+ minute race coming in 5th place. Jokes abound… we had enough fuel in the car to make the distance!

Thank you to our car sponsor, Skip Wendt with Skip’s Performance Corner… your Honda specialist! Flying Tee Golf in Jenks on the Riverwalk for coming on board this season! Honda of Tulsa, FabTech, RUJO, and all of Hunter’s teammates for their help and support! Hunter’s next race with be with the POWRi West Midget series in OKC’s I-44 Speedway on Saturday, April 13. We have the motor finished and hope to see our fans at the track.
