Mcgowan Wins First WISSOTA Pure Stock Feature, T. Pederson, B. Rehill, K. Mulholland Claim Wins

Stock car racing returned to Lake of the Woods Speedway for the last time in 2023 with the Riverview Industries Inc. WISSOTA Street Stocks, Q104 WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, WISSOTA Pure Stocks and the Henley Ent. & HD Contracting Ent. 4-Cylinders taking it to the track once again.

In the WISSOTA Pure Stocks, Brodie Mcgowan started on the pole and finished there with Morgan McDonald finishing second (started fifth) and Alexander Farr in third (started sixth). In heat two, Michael Copp made things looks easy as he dominated the race from the outside pole. Wanda Marshall finished second and Bryson McDonald finished third.

With the luck of the redraw, Mcgowan started on the pole once again, but it was not going to be an easy task as Copp had suddenly made his way from the seventh position to second place. However, trouble struck Copp as he headed into turn one. With a puff a smoke, he started to lose power and eventually had to retired from the race early. A couple cautions occurred in the race, including mechanical issues which forced Farr (steering), B. McDonald (tire), and M. McDonald (steering) to leave the event early. On the final restart, it was all Mcgowan with Marshall hot on his tail. With a few laps to go, Marshall was a car length behind the leader but was unable to challenge.

Congratulations to Mcgowan, winning his first ever WISSOTA Pure Stock feature.

In the Q104 WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Nick Hooper started and finished at the front with Ryan Sichewski and Carter Kinnear rounding out the top three. In heat number two, Christopher Leek dominated on the outside with Brandon Rehill and Cody Ossachuk finishing behind him.

The feature race had Kinnear on the pole with Leek on the outside. Right at the green flag, Leek was able to pull away from the entire field. Meanwhile, Rehill went from the bottom to the top of the track in front of several cars and went off the back side, forcing him to gather it back up.

Several cautions occurred which involved Austin Overwater and Jesse McKuski on separate occasions. This allowed Rehill to gain the space needed to challenge for the lead. Once things got going, Leek continued up front. A failed engine by Ryan Lotas brought out the last caution of the race.

On the following restart, Leek was starting to move down a lane on turns three/four as grip was starting to fade away with each lap. With about five to go, Rehill dived into three and four, contacting the leader. Leek was forced to slow up to avoid the wall, allowing Rehill to take the lead. The finish would see Rehill claim his eleventh all time win at Lake of the Woods Speedway. Leek finished second and Edward Bell (started 10th) finished third.

In the Riverview Industries WISSOTA Street Stocks, Tucker Pederson battled side by side with Tylar Wilson before finally wrangling the lead halfway through the heat race. Jesse Thompson finished third.

Wilson would redraw pole position with Thompson on the outside for the feature. It didn’t take long for Pederson to challenge the lead making a move on Wilson and Thompson on the outside. While second and third was yet to be determined, Pederson started to pull away. A caution came out once during a spin by Kevin Desserre, but after the restart it was all Pederson to the checkered flag. Wilson and Thompson would finish out the top three.

The Henley Ent. & HD Contracting Ent. 4-Cylinders had two heats with Shelden McDonald defeating Madoc Mulholland by a bumper to the checkered flag. Dustin Wowk finished third. In heat two, Dustin Alcock would dominate the race after starting on the pole. Kamea Mulholland who was driving her brother’s car finished second and Aiden McKuski crossing third.

In the feature race, Shelden McDonald and K. Mulholland started on the front row. It was almost three wide in the first two corners as Alcock moved to the outside of McDonald. It was at that moment that McDonald realized he wasn’t going to make the corner with the speed he had. The leader would go straight up the track pushing Alcock over the top. The caution came out and with no harm, no foul, McDonald went to the back.

On the ensuing restart, K. Mulholland took the lead and never looked back. Even though Alcock could get up to the back bumper, it would not be enough. Even a caution involving McKuski give no advantage to second place. McKuski would round out the top three after passing four cars from the outside groove.
Congratulation to Kamea Mulholland for her second win of the season.

Thank you to all the amazing fans, volunteers, sponsors, drivers, etc. for making Lake of the Woods Speedway a great place to be! Up next is the Annual Awards Banquet set for Saturday, November 18. More details soon.
