SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. – What was shaping up to be a great drive for one Monrovia, Ind. racer ended in disappointment at the legendary Angell Park Speedway. After a heat race win, Justin Peck was primed for a fantastic finish, but steering issues in the main event brought his night to an early close.

Starting from the pole of his heat race, Peck looked to lead early, but POWRi National Midget point leader Darren Hagen stole the top spot from the outside front row. Hagen led most of the race with Peck in second, but a late caution and ensuing restart saw the leader make contact with an infield tire, handing Peck the lead back and allowing him to take the win. “We’ll take it how we can get it,” the 16-year-old added in his interview following that race. Earning a spot in the night’s dash, Peck redrew the 1 pill to start on the pole. As he fell to fourth, he would start in that position for the main event.

After dropping back one spot to fifth on the start of the 30-lap main event, Peck was racing right with the lead group for the first few laps. When it looked like he was closing in to retake the fourth spot, catastrophe struck. A part in the steering assembly broke, sending the Dura Coat No. 5X careening into the turn two wall. Peck’s machine climbed the barrier after a massive hit and flipped upside down. Peck was quick to climb from the DRC Chassis, unharmed but surely frustrated that so much damage was done to the car. He was credited with 19th place.

Peck would like to thank Dura Coat Products, Factory Kahne, Simpson Race Products, Lucas Oil, Keizer Wheels, Hoosier Racing Tire, Saldana Racing Products, Pit Stop BBQ & Grill, Quick Change Products, and Spider Graphix, as well as his parents, Joe Devin, Carl Thomas, Rich Gabel, Jon Steed, Mike Gass, Zack Burks, and all of his fans for their continued support.

Peck is next scheduled to compete on May 29-30 at Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Ind. with the USAC National Midget Series in the No. 5X midget entry.
