JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – What was scheduled for a two-race weekend for the POWRi National Midget Series at two Illinois quarter-miles on Friday and Saturday was abbreviated to one night, as Saturday’s events at Macon Speedway were cancelled due to rain showers. Beforehand, however, an intense night of racing for Justin Peck would take place at Jacksonville Speedway on Friday. The talented Indiana racer began feature competition from the fifth starting spot in the B-Main, but motored his way around numerous competitors to net his first top-ten in a POWRi main event this season.

The first heat race of the night, a heat stacked with talent. Peck would take on Bryan Clauson, Christopher Bell, and Tyler Thomas, among others in the eight-lap race. Peck’s pill draw placed him on the last row on the grid, starting seventh. He would spend much of the heat in the fifth position, but fell back to sixth in the late going. Consigned to the B-Main where the top six would transfer to the feature, he would start inside row three. A red flag would halt the action with three laps down, and Peck would move into third on the restart. After swapping the spot several times, he would secure the position with a slidejob on the final corner.

Moving into the 30-lap main event, Peck was set to fire the Dura Coat No. 5x from the 19th starting position. He would scale his charge forward early, and was sitting 12th when the first caution flag flew with 12 laps complete. Using another caution a few laps later to his advantage, Peck moved as far forward as seventh. But upon an attempt to make another pass, he hit the outside wall that was just above the commonplace rough and tumble Jacksonville cushion. The contact would drop Peck back in the running order, but he would compose himself quickly and remain in the top-ten, sustaining the ninth position when the checkered waved.

Peck would like to thank Dura Coat Products, Factory Kahne, Simpson Race Products, Lucas Oil, Keizer Wheels, Hoosier Racing Tire, Saldana Racing Products, Pit Stop BBQ & Grill, Quick Change Products, and Spider Graphix, as well as his parents, Joe Devin, Carl Thomas, Rich Gabel, Jon Steed, Mike Gass, Zack Burks, and all of his fans for their continued support.

Peck is next scheduled to compete on May 1 at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Mo. and on May 2 at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., both with the POWRi National Midget Series in the No. 5x midget entry.
