Super Chevy Shines Light on New 2024 WDRA Champions

Delmar, DE -

The weather forecast was usual for the weekend of the 61st Anniversary William J. and Juanita Cathell Memorial and Super Chevy Show, Shine and Drags. They called for on and off showers all weekend, but we got the usual which was no rain Friday and Saturday with a shower coming in Sunday night around 7 pm where we were down to the finals in 2 classes, 4 cars in 2 classes and 5 in 1.

Friday night, we had a test and tune for all classes in preparation for the weekend crowning of the champions. The track offered a gamblers race for Top, Mod and Jr.

Saturday, cars hit the track for the one and only time run for the bracket event. The final points weekend brought out stiff competition to see who would qualify to go to Keystone Dragway for the Bracket Finals in September. At the end of the day, the Hazzard Auto Parts & Carquest Jr. Dragster winner was Marquise Blake over Raegan Ketterman. Ketterman's red bulb gave Blake the automatic win. Prestige Plumbing Teen Challenge found Morgan Tull and Landon Miller running against each other, but Tull's .021 reaction gave her the advantage and the win. OBHF Pro Bike Mark Blake and Gavin McMichael hit the starting line with Blake pulling out the win. This gave the Blake family a father/son win in Pro Bike and Jr Dragster! Tire King Sportsman found Donald Metz, points leader vs Jonathan Henry. Henry's red bulb gave Metz the win and he continued as points leader into Sunday's event. Custom Beach Services Mod/Footbrake finalists were Charles Sanders vs Humphrey Maddox. Maddox had the starting line advantage but couldn't run his dial and gave Sanders the win. Noland Services of Salisbury Top eliminator found James Moshier running Travis Leake in the final. Leake's -.005 redlight gave Moshier the win.

Saturday also welcomed the North East Index Racing group to US 13 Dragway. The 8.50 Index found Alfonse Magliocco vs Luis Martinez in the finals with "Al Fonse" pulling off the better reaction time and taking the win. The 10.00 Index had Nick Ross vs James Moshier (winner in Top Saturday), this time, Moshier's .002 reaction could not seal the deal. He ran short of the 10.00 dial in to give Ross the win. The 11.50 Index found Scott Dalrymple vs Travis LaRoque. Dalrymple gave a .013 reaction to take the win over LaRoque.

The Quick 16 race ended with Danny Bastianelli vs Jeff Moore in the final round, but Moore put up the red -.004 light giving Bastianelli the win.

Sunday, the final day of points, the rain ended the day just short of presenting the winner checks for Super Chevy Show, Shine and Drag 2024.

After the final calculations were completed, the Noland Company of Salisbury's TOP Eliminator Champion was crowned, Mike DiLorenzo of Magnolia, Delaware took the WDRA Championship for 2024. Beach Custom Services crowned Michael Jefferson of Salisbury Champion. OBHF Champion for 2024 was earned by Jimmie Miller of Gambrills, MD. Tire King Sportsman Champion Donald Metz, Kenneth Square, Pennsylvania was crowned for 2024. Hazzard Auto Parts & Carquest Champion for 2024 is Raegan Ketterman of Laurel, Delaware, 2nd consecutive year winning WDRA Championship. The Prestige Plumbing & HVAC Teen Challenge Champion was crowned, Savanna Baker of Salisbury, MD.

Congratulations to all of the WDRA Champions and good luck in holding the top spot through the end of the season to claim the US 13 Dragway Championships for 2024.
