Wild Shootout Goes To Burks At US36!

Osborn, Mo: Friday Night “The Sheriff” Wyatt Burks of Topeka, Kansas, survived a wild shootout with rival Kory Schudy, of Battlefield, Missouri, as the Wholesale Batteries USAC MWRA Sprint Series raced at US 36 Raceway Dirt Track. This was the third time this USAC series raced at the Northwest Missouri speed plant in 2023. With capital city racer Burks driving his Wyatt Burks Racing 11w to victory in May. While Schudy would take the win at US 36 in July driving the Jon Sawyer Racing (JSR) 28.

For the third go round Schudy would win the first heat race Friday night from his 5th starting spot to earn high points honor. And Burks would counter driving his way to victory in heat race number two for second place in points following heat race action. After Schudy rolled a zero for the invert, both drivers would move to the front row for the 25 lapper, and the stage was set for a epic showdown.

During the first half of the race it was Schudy who set the pace in the feature followed by Burks, Wesley Smith of (Nixa, Mo) running
the John Helm 12, Luke Howard (Overland Park, Ks) driving the LHR 2H, and Chris Parkinson (Gladstone, Mo)turning the wheels in the CHR 65 rounding out the top 5. A few laps later Burks would catch Schudy in traffic and take the lead for the first time. Shortly after, 3rd running Smith would lose the right side panel of the Helm 12 between turns three and four, bringing out the only yellow flag of the race.

On the restart, and over the final laps of the race, Burks and Schudy would exchange the lead several times, racing high and low on the high banks of US 36. Finally, on the 24th lap,Burks had just enough breathing room to get the win over Schudy, followed by Smith in third, and Parkinson in fourth, after passing Howard who would end up fifth.
