R.J. Johnson Teaming Up With VanderEcken for 2019 Season

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Oct. 3, 2018) – R.J. Johnson is excited to announce his racing plan for next season is to partner with veteran car owner Mike VanderEcken.
“I moved here from Florida about 10 years ago,” Johnson said. “Since I was 16-years-old I raced with my parents. I took over financially three or four years ago, but they were still involved. They want to do some other stuff and they deserve to do that. I needed to partner with someone to keep going and Mike VanderEcken is perfect. We’re going to join up and race together. Next year will be his 30th year of racing.”
Johnson said the team will run weekly at Knoxville Raceway and will tackle select World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series shows in the Midwest along with a trip east to race with the Pennsylvania Posse.
“Knoxville will be the focus,” he said. “We’ll run all of the close Outlaws shows, which is usually about 15. Mike likes to go to Pennsylvania and so do I so we might go out there for a race or two.”
Johnson and VanderEcken are combining resources and the car number will remain as the famed VanderEcken Motorsports No. 10.
“My wife and I have a parts business and then wearing every hat in the race team gets tough,” Johnson said. “Being a car owner and driver and crew chief is pretty challenging. This partnership takes some of the burden off of me.”
The team is actively seeking additional sponsors to help offset the costs.

“George Redman, who owns Redman Cattle, has been with me for seven or eight years,” Johnson said. “He’s a big race fan who has really helped me. Without George’s help I would have never gotten into 410s and wouldn’t have continued the last three or four years.”
