Inside Line Promotions – MAGRATH, Alberta, Canada (Sept. 17, 2019) – A season that began with promise and speed evolved into one wrought with challenges and adversity which Cody Masse and his racing team successfully battled.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t have the results we hoped for this year,” Masse said. “We started out with a lot of promise and had some things to be proud of. But then we faced a lot of adversity with various issues beyond our control. We lost our primary motor after nine races and we got caught up in several crashes, none of which were our own doing. About 40 percent of our races were rained out.

“Through all the adversity I felt our team responded really well. The season tried to make us give up several times, but we refused. I’m really proud of the effort of my crew, sponsors and other supporters who helped keep us going. I know that when things start going our way again, that attitude will be one of the reasons we’ll be successful.”

In spite of the numerous challenges, Masse and his team were able to set new career marks. A runner-up finish at Big Sky Speedway in Billings, Mont., in June eclipsed their previous highest feature finish of fourth. Their nine top-10 finishes nearly doubled their previous best of five.

“We got off to a solid start to the season with six top-10 finishes in a row, including our best night ever at a track when we won our heat race and finished second in the feature in Billings,” he said. “We won another heat race after being unable to do that the last several years. We also had the fastest lap among a strong group of cars in Great Falls.”

Following the successful start, the team began an uphill battle after losing their primary engine and resorting to their underpowered back-up power plant, which already had more than 30 nights of racing on it.

“We could’ve easily given up and called it a year,” he said. “But we went back to what we knew and did the best with what we had. I was proud of our effort and what we were able to accomplish.”

While Masse’s career-best finish at Big Sky Speedway was a highlight of the season, one of his favorite memories occurred in late August at Electric City Speedway in Great Falls, Mont., when he was able to score a top-10 finish following an opening-lap crash.

“That night at Great Falls quickly went from a bad memory for me to one of my favorites of the year,” he said. “Getting upside-down on the opening lap, everyone thrashing on the car, getting back in the race and finishing in the top 10 was pretty cool. I think that race kind of described our season in a nutshell.”

While nothing is definite, Masse noted that he plans to race a similar schedule in 2020.

“It’s difficult to make any plans at this time, since most of the tracks won’t have their schedules out for another four to five months, but we’ll probably have a schedule similar to this year’s,” he said. “We plan to spend the offseason getting our motor program back to where it needs to be.”
