CONNOR ATKINSON MAKE BIG RUN AT DCRP
After a year and a half lay off, 17 year old female driver Connor Atkinson opened up the 2015 season opener at Dodge City Raceway Park in the 305 sprint car division with quite a big run. Coming into the night saw 29 305 sprint cars check into the season opener. Connor started 5th place in heat one and quickly moved into 4th. she was later challenged by Cj Johnson who got the pass on her. Finishing in 5th that but her on the outside front row of the B feature. In the B feature Jake Grieder jumped out front with Connor following close behind. At the checkerd flag it was almost a photo finish side by side with Connor finishing 2nd, this transfered connor to the A feature starting 18th, it didnt take Connor long after running that B feature to find her line. She set a quick pace picking up 3 spots in two laps before the caution flew. Moving her back 1 spot to restart in 16th she picked up 3 more spots to 13th before they recieved a red flag for Taylor Velasquez flipping in turn four after jumping slower traffics right rear tire. Moving Connor back 2 spots to 15th we saw the remainder of the race go green. Connor set a quick pace once the green flag flew, moving through the field, when the checkered flag finally dropped Connor brought home a 6th place finish closing in on the top five.
